very good question (s) From Gandhi I think the major thrust of his teachings was passive resistance..that change can be brought about by civil disobedience alone without violence..
We can learn a lot from Hitler's rise to power..the people of Germany were going through a very horrible economic time as was the rest of the world during the depression. The currency was so devalued that it was used the make fires to keep them warm..he came at a time when people were desperate and wanted someone or something to make their lives better..Hitler knew this and played on their desperation..he was able to rouse the German people and by making some changes, make them believe that he could save them from the sorry economic state..but what they could not have seen would be to the depths that he would lead them and the destruction it would cause..his was just the opposite of Gandhi..that violence was an end to a means. No one should ever forget the violence and hatred that Hitler unleashed on the world to ensure that it never happens again!

We can learn in Ghadi's knowledge that violence is not the answer to every problem. As for Hitler, I don't know. I just know that he was strong enough to convince thousands of Germans to fight next to him. There you go. We learn that we can brain wash people, too. Peace!
