Not all of the world used to hate us, then
Bush became president.
Jealousy of wealth has nothing to do with it.

If the statistics were totally inclusive of ALL nations, then the nation of The Vatican would rank (after a few minor statistical alterations, THE most wealthy nation on the earth). No kidding.
Back to the question at hand.....
As far as jealousy, yep. They also hate our waste, boastful lifestyles (displayed on TV), superficial natures (again per TV influence), healthiness, inventiveness/innovations, charities, justice system (still the BEST), military (THE BEST, even considering it's voluntary, too!!! ), freedom of religion in which, several different "types" can be on the same street and there is no violence waged ! and the list can go on & on indefinitely....

Yep. The truth is self-evident - America may have the wealth, but we do SHARE it the most!!!!

It isn't the wealth. It's the US Foreign Policy, which consists mainly of interfering in the affairs of other countries to protect its own interests while claiming it is for the good of their people and the world at large.

The US government made this claim when it invaded Iraq in 2003 to overthrow a dictatorship and replace it with a democracy, and yet it was making a similar claim when 30 years earlier, it assisted in the overthrow of a democracy and its replacement with a dictatorship, i.e. Chile.

Or not interfering at all. From 1966 until c.1996 Indonesia was ruled by one General Soehartoe, a dictator who was responsible for the judicial murder of 1,000,000 of his own people, plus the invasion of East Timor, resulting in 200,000 deaths, and Acheh, resulting in thousands more.

I don't remember the US or any of its allies going to war to oust this particular despot - who was as bad as if not worse than Saddam - in fact for all of the c.30 years he was in power the US and UK sold him weapons, including armoured vehicles and combat aircraft. In the end he was overthrown by his own people without any outside help.

Could the reason for this inaction be that Indonesia doesn't have any oil? Whatever the reason, it makes the US gov't's claims that its 'mission' is always to combat dictatorship and defend democracy sound pretty hollow.

It also explains why a lot of people in other countries don't like the US very much.

BTW Soehartoe was a Muslim, and the people of East Timor are mainly Christian.

That may well be part of it. Another part is that we *do* often come across as arrogant; for example, few Americans speak a second language or know much about the rest of the world, which can be seen as pretty conceited of us. We often act as if our wealth gives us special privileges. In the last few years in particular, we've been very high-handed in our foreign policies, demanding that other countries follow rules that we refuse to follow ourselves or thinking we have the right to decide how other countries run themselves. But that's more this administration than all Americans, and most wise people understand that.

We're a great country. In time, we'll start showing that again.

For your information, not many people i know care about america. America may have alot of wealth but it is not the only country which has wealth.
It may be the first on the list in purchasing power but it is not the richest country in the world and who ever told you that people hate america because they are jealous?
Ive never heard that **** in my life!

which wealth?

you haven't a welfare state (you haven't free education and free medical system as in the greatest part of europe)
you haven't a civil protection to aid population (do u remember the thousands deads of Katrina Hurricane?)
you don't respect the Kyoto Protocol and you continue to pollute this world
you heve less strong currency, respect €
you have great social disparities between rich and poor people (about 25% of americans are poor)
you don't respect human rights and you use torture and penalty death
you declair war illegaly to export democracy

Where is this wealth?

And that's why people hate us! What kind of wealth are you talking about? Does your Daddy own an oil company? The rest of America is struggling with debt, not to mention the extreme poverty some Americans live in.

No. It isn't the wealth. Just because neo-cons place money above all things doesn't mean that everyone else does.

I bet when Newt was losing his wives due to infidelity he accused them of being jealous as well.

Not because of the money, because we have a stupid president who has alienated practically everyone on the planet.
