Congrats on becoming a woman officially.
Dont be scared remember she was your age too she will understand. Sit her down one on one and tell her it is private that you would feel more confortable if she didnt tell other family members.

Your mom is a woman and she should understand what you are going through. Having your period is a natural thing, there's nothing to be ashamed about. Since your first menstruation has been heavy it is safe to assume that it will stay that way for a while. You will need to let a parent know so that they can supply you with pads and tampons. Be careful with tampons though, they have been know to lead to Toxic Shock Syndrome, especially if left in the body for more than a couple of hours.

I'm 48 and mine still starts heavy the first couple of days and then it tapers off. I start with tampons that are for a super flow and I also use a pad for extra protection. The next few days I use a regular tampon for a lighter flow. Every female is different and all of our cycles are different. Just be patient and try to live as normally as possible for that one week of every month.

Use a tampon and use a shield to prevent it from leaking onto your undies... Tell your mom, I was a little hurt that my foster daughter didn't come to me, when she got hers, and would be very saddened if my own didn't... Congrat's on becoming a woman, and buy some Midol/Pamprin, to help w/the pain,

mine came down when i was 13 and i have hated it ever since. i got sooooo very sick when mine came down. dizzy, vomiting, totally exhausted and blood blood blood. was a very negative and scarey experience for me and my mom was there for me helping me but it was just too horrific for me. my flows are heavy too and i hate it but i use pads because it hurts me badly to use tampons...i am too small for tampons so pads are my only option. i wouldn't wish a period on my worst enemy, if i had any, because it sux major. if that's what it means to be a woman then i would rather be a little girl forever.

aww i was the same way with my mom it was like my 4th period b4 i told her (but dont do that)but dont worry you can tell her. she will understand you cause she went though it. how heavy it is depends on your body so it prolly is normal to have a heavy period first.

It's hard talking to anyone about your first period. You should try to talk to your mum about it I had to tell my dad which was probably the worst feeling ever, but he was good about it he then told my sister who lived 400klm away and she came and took me to the doctors to get me on contraception.
