This is according to the Spiderman comic series:

In Secret Wars #8 (December 1984), Spider-Man damages his costume in combat and is directed to a facility where he can't find a new costume. He activates a machine that releases the symbiote in the form of a black liquid. When Spider-Man touches the liquid, it covers his body and, reacting to Spider-Man's thoughts about the costume worn by the second Spider-Woman, forms a new costume. To Spider-Man's surprise, the costume can mimic street clothes and provides a seemingly inexhaustible supply of webbing.

Once back on Earth, Spider-Man learns the costume is a sentient alien symbiote that wishes to fuse permanently with him and often controls his body while he sleeps. With the aid of Mister Fantastic, Spider-Man discovers the symbiote is vulnerable to sound, and he uses sonic waves to remove it. The symbiote escapes and attempts to forcibly bond itself to Spider-Man in a church tower. The clanging of the church bells and Spider-Man's rejection of the symbiote weaken both the alien and Spider-Man. The symbiote, using its remaining strength, carries an unconscious Spider-Man to safety from the bells before it slithers away.

This rejection left the symbiote extremely bitter toward Spider-Man, a trait it would share with its future hosts.

The movie takes this into account and uses the symbiote, which will later remove itself from Spiderman and bond to the character Eddie Brock and create the Venom villan.

The black suit is called Simbiate (I don't know if I spelt that right). Eddie Brock (an astrnaut) went to the moon and found this black stuff. He brought it back home to him and it some how found it's way to Peter Parker. (I'm not sure about all the details.) Well, Peter didn't realize that it had gotten a hold of him, but he started feeling stronger. He notcied he could do more than he could before, and he liked it. But it also made him act differently. After a while he realized it was taking over his life, so he tried to take it off. He did and it fell on Eddie Brock who got turned into Venom.

That alien lifeform that attatched to the space shuttle while it was orbiting Earth and crashed with it. It's called the Venom symbiote. It had like 5 kids. 1st one is called Carnage, and then Scream, Toxin, etc... Carnage should be in the movie since it was in the cartoon.

it is an alien, i dont know how theyre going to put it into the movie, but spiderman got it on another planet in the comic books. the alien suit makes him very violent, so he gets rid of it, which becomes VENOM, which is what you saw in the cartoon series.
