Yes-
Because
1. Our morphology and homologous structures most resemble fossil records of land animals
specifically homo erectus and neanderthalis and early homo sapiens
2. our embryology and homologous structures resemble other animals and mammals
3. Specifically we are Vertebrates
vertebrae - spinal cord
and brain encased in our skull
4. we have a protective outer shell - skin
because we are land animals and the skin is to protect us from predators
5. we are warm blooded endoderms that maintain a stable body temperature
6. we are mammals because we have a live birth within a womb
7. we have internal systems that support specific functions
nervous system
circulatory system
digestive system
excretory system

Yes we are animals.
We share most of our DNA with apes, we look like, and in fact are, Apes. We just evolved to be more intelligent. We are not anything more than that.
We share the same chemical reactions as most other animals, have the same organs, like kidneys, hearts, brains etc. Our embryos look similar to embryos of other mammals, and in some very early stages, fish and reptiles.
We can use animal models to study human physiology, due to our similarity.

Our similarity is neither by design nor by coincidence. It is because we have evolved from common ancestors with many other animals, millions of years in the past.
If you need more convincing of our "animalness" read "An Ancestors Tale" by Richard Dawkins.
