I'm not a racist but hear me out. It was me, and two people who I'm very friendly too and they are to me back. One is white and the other is black. Any way I was swearing a little bit and the black guy says "you can't swear your white" (he usually makes fun of white people every now and then but I don't care) and then what happens is in a joking way my other white friend says "do you have a problem with white people" and I said "I wouldn't get him mad because if you get a black guy mad he will shoot you" but I didn't mean anything by it. Then the black guy goes "whats your problem are you racist?" I said no but he said in a serious tone that he was going to get one of his friends to bomb my house. So my question is: Was what I did that bad? But I really don't think his threat is real.

And by the way this is the truth and if he does bring the incident up I will apologize but if he doesn't bring it up again then I will just forget about it.

I don't really condone his statements about white people, but you have to also consider the nature of racism in this country. Your comments carry more weight because you are coming from the position of the traditionally dominant in this society. Whether you ascribe to racist notions or not, it is an inescapable truth that the white/black power struggle has been tipped in huge favour of whites for a very long time.
I think that your comments were also more heavy handed ("if you get a black guy mad he will shoot you") whereas his were more benign ("you can't swear, you're white"). They come across in completely different ways.

You are clearly not in the wrong. He began with the racial humor and you made a joke back. He shouldn't dish it out if he can't take it. I don't think the threat is real either, but still, what a hypocritical douchebag.

You should've responded with "Nìgga please...we all know black folk cant make bombs, thats why all them africans run around with guns and spears and you never hear of them blowing anything up, only shootin' people."
Then he can call you a racist fair and square :D

I have a couple of black friends that joke around with me about even racism. We worked together also, and we just kept it away from others, to keep us out of trouble. You really need to be careful at work with that kind of thing, as it could get you fired.

Yeah your comment wasn't light hearted people really think we will shoot people, so therefore it wasn't appropriate to say. Also I'm sure he wasn't going to bomb your house it's not all that serious.

was he joking when he said this? don't worry too much about it. if he's your real friends then he won't do that and he'll get over it soon enough. you two obviously didn't have that great of a friendship if it can end just by that.

Sounds like he can dish it but he can't take it.
He shouldn't have started with the white joke.
You weren't wrong but you CAN be the better man and apologize.

Apologize. And make sure it doesn't happen again. If apologizing doesn't work, he thinks he is better than you. Then you should forget him
