I work as a cashier at a dollar store. People constantly come in, and instead of putting their money in my hand, they put it on the conveyor belt, or on the counter, or on the sign pad. I think it's RUDE! Yet, people still do it, and then look up and smile at me. What is this about? Am I missing something?

I have been a cashier and the customer so I know what you mean but sometimes I lay my money down on the counter because I feel like if I stand there holding money while you're still on the register then that's like rushing you It just feels rude to stand there holding money.

I do it both ways but I wasn't aware I was being offensive. I just thought as long as the transaction worked out nobody carried. I've also been a cashier but I don't remember thinking anything about it then either. If I knew it offended someone I wouldn't do it though.

I usually avoid touching the cashier, for fear of contracting "cooties".
