New one is right. There may be two or three of them though. You'll have to get the right one or just go one at a time and hope you get lucky early.

It shouldnt fail in Texas due to the lack of emmisions tests. Although if you want it fixed your going to have to replace it. In my opinion Id go out and find the place with the cheapest labor rates in town and get it replaced. Sometimes they can be a pain in the rear to replace yourself plus if it has the 5.3L V-8 in it your looking at about 3 different O2 sensors. A shop will be able to determine which one is bad. More than likely its going to be the most expensive one to relpace just because of Murphy's law.

It wont pass inspection in most texas counties with a check eng. light on.Y ou can go to autozone and they will pull the code and tell you whitch 02 is bad.You should be able to replace it yourself with only a 7/8 wrench. After the sensor is replased ,the eng. light will need to be reset and the truck driven for about 30 miles before it will pass insp. There are 4 02s on your truck( bank1sensor1)(bank 1 sensor2)(bank2sensor1)bank2sensor2)

Yes, it will stop your car from passing emissions testing portion of your state inspection.
To fix the O2 sensor, just unscrew it from the exhaust, and replace it with a new one.

You don't repair them, you replace them. You just unplug it, unscrew it and put the new one in. A box wrench will go over the connector and onto the sensor when you unplug it.
