I have a business under my name and the mail comes with the business name on it. My landlord is demanding proof that the business belongs to me, because my name isn't on the front. I don't want her to know my business. Is she allowed to do that? I live in Ontario.

Absolutely none of their business. Threaten to sue if the landlord cant mind their own business. You have a great case for court, this is a very blatant violation of privacy.

Many people have hit the nail close to on the head. Taking mail is a federal offense in the US, but even the landlord would be guilty of that for withholding yours. They can not do so out of suspicion. While I suspect it is similar in Canada as the Canada post operates under a similar mandate as the USPS, ultimatly I would contact a postal inspector. You can do so at the below link. They may want proof, but your landlord will not be intitled to find out anything. They will ensure that the flow of mail to you is unstopped and take actions against the landlord if nessesary.

I can't answer for Ontario, but here in the U.S., I could see a landlord asking about this. If he is seeing mail coming and you are picking it up, how does he know that you are not picking up mail that doesn't belong to you. Here in the U.S. taking mail that doesn't belong to you is a federal offense. So it may simply be that he's concerned that the mail is being picked up by the wrong person.

I believe that's just between you and the Post Office. They are required to deliver any mail with that address on it to your address.,regardless of what name it says on the envelope.
