They are both great actors, since I've never seen Pacino do comedy - I'll have to go with DeNiro

Pacino in the Scarface/Godfather days was much better, but today De Neiro shows more range and is excellent in all genres of movies he is in. I like that De Neiro takes more chances.

Robert Deniro in my mind is one of the Top 3 actors of all time. I really enjoyed the movie Taxi Driver, as it showed a man on the fringes of schizophrenia trying to come to grips with the fact that he's losing his ground. He was great in the Raging Bull he showed such a realistic portrayal of Jake La Motta it was uncanny. He has a wide array of movies he made and he's excellent in all of them from comedy to drama he is the man. Cape Fear, The Untouchables, The Fan, Frankenstein Good Fellas, Meet The Fokers, Casino, Heat. The list is long and accomplished.
Al Pacino is second on my list as one of the top 3 actors of all time. We all know which movie propelled him to super stardom..... Scarface was an epic classic of all proportions, it showed the story of a Cuban immigrant who started from the bottom and propelled his way to the lower echelons of society. He was magnificent My name is Tony Montana and I'm a political refuge from Cuba...That line will be one of the greatest remembered lines of all time. Pacino also is an actor of broad spectrum, he glides through roles like a pro on ice, he makes you feel as though your a part of the movie perfection of realism. Serpico, The Godfathers 1, 2 ,3 Devil's Advocate, And Justice for All , Frankie and Johnny, The Scent of A Woman, Dick Tracy(cant blame him or Deniro for that for cripes sake that movie was an epitome) shows all the variety Pacino possess as an actor.
Overall my favorite actor is Robert Deniro

I lean toward Al Pacino, though both are reasonably good actors.
I liked Pacino in "Revolution," which is probably one of his less well-known movies. In it he plays an illiterate boatman named Tom Dub who gets caught up in the Revolutionary War and wins the heart and hand of a girl played by Natasha Kinnski. He had to play the character as written, not adapt his personality to the role. He was convincing and very strong in the role.

OK so you have asked for a detailed answer and Ill try to give one as much as Robert angers me and youll soon see why..
Al Pacino was amazing in Godfather II, and captivated the audience as much as a young brando once did.
Al Pacino in scent of a woman was excellent despite his strange southern accent.
Al Pacino played the role of a cuban drug dealer excellently in scarface.
There are many more roles which have prooven his genius such as his stage role in Julious Caesar but I personally love and admire Pacino as someone of Italian Decent who is a very proud Italian, and fantastic actor.
Robert DeNiro is not an Actor but rather a preformer, you see most of his roles have the same basic characteristics. *Tought guy *Street Smart *Business Savy *Underground *Gangster or *Cop
I love him in Raging Bull I love him in many things hes done with Scorsese and I admire him for learning Italian and Sicilian for Godfather II..,I dont love how he always goes about using the same facial expressions in most of his roles, nor do I love the fact he is Mostly an IRISH man with an Italian last name. YOU SEE ROBER DE NIRO IS 3/4ths IRISH!!! Yet he goes about pretending to be mostly italian.

I love both Robert De Niro in Goodfellas, Taxi Driver & the list goes on Al Pacino in The Goodfather, Carlito's Way & his list to can go on I can't choose so sue me

I like Pacino just fine, but I think that De Niro is a more versatile actor with a much more diverse filmography.

Difficult! Both are very good actors and nice persons.
I would go for Jean Reno (I knew him personally!) and he is a friend of Al & Robert.

De Niro is my pick. He's had a much more diverse career. See Taxi Driver, Frankenstein, Goodfellas, Meet the Parents, etc.

Al Pacino is amazing, he is my favourite; i would say that Al Pacino's roles are mostly serious and gang like, while Robert Deniro playes more varieties of movies.
