You can buy precious metals and short stocks to protect yourself against it.

We are not yet in a recession.

We don't have the two consecutive quarters of economic slowdown to claim a recession. Don't count on housing, the sub prime market is going to get blown apart and housing prices are not escalating at all. Hope you have a job in a fairly recession proof arena, not manufacturing of high dollar luxury items that get hit hard and fast. Invest in metals if you have the iron cast stomach to match. Don't get sick over short term losses, most recession last a year or so, but less than 2 years.
