Classical music is just that-it's classic. Your question is kind of like saying "why can't rock and roll be soft, mellow, and instrumental"---then it would be classical. By the way, not all classical music is "un fun". 1812 Overture has some movements that would, as you might say, rock.

There's actually a lot of 'classical' music out there that's really good.
If you want it to rock:
Evanescence's Lacrymosa is a new arrangement of Mozart's Lacrimosa.
Trans-Siberian Orchestra uses some 'classical' music.
The Phantom of the Opera

Movie music is considered 'classical'. I know they made a dance mix out of some of the music from Pirates of the Carribean.

There's tons of stuff out there.
I personally think Dvorak and Tchaikovsky rock.

Have you heard the group El Divo? Their music is called pop opera. I think they are awsome. They harmonize so well, it's amazing.
