There is no such thing as an optologist. There are only ophthalmologists and optometrists. And how can they go to a collage? A collage is a type of art. Please use spell check.

That being said, an eye doctor has to go to medical school for 8 years in order to get their degree. They cannot be doctors without a degree.

Optometrists: 8 years
Ophthalmologists: 8 years plus a residency
Optician: On the job training

The Doctor of Optometry degree requires the completion of a 4-year program at an accredited optometry school, preceded by at least 3 years of preoptometric study at an accredited college or university. Most optometry students hold a bachelor’s or higher degree..

Good luck!
