I think the Niners are a playoff caliber team in 2007 mostly because of the moves made on the defensive side of the ball. Losing Turner is not going to hurt as much becasue their offensive system is remaining the same so all the players and coaches are on the same page.Alex Smith will have a breakout year and Vernon Davis will make some plays also.

The Niners have a chance to win the division next year. Just a message to the Seahawk Fans, Don't be overconfident because the Niners swept the Seahawks last year and injuries are not an excuse.Gore ran over 200 yards in the first meeting and killed them in the second meeting too.

Yes, for a few reasons:

1) They improved a defense that was horrible at times last year. Adding Clements gives them a top notch corner opposite veteran Walt Harris and the signing of Tully Banta-Cain is higly underrated. He along with Manny Lawson gives the 49ers some good young LB's

2) The improvement of Alex Smith. He's a much better player now than he was his rookie year. They have some weapons around him with Gore and Vernon Davis, so he should make some noise this year.

3) Most importantly, they play in the NFC Worst Division, where Seattle is not a definite contender, the Rams are great on offense, mediocre on defense, and the Cardinals are still the Cardinals.

Bottom Line: San Francisco goes 10-6, wins the NFC Worst.

Niners are my team and I like tha moves they have made and it might get them to .500 but they still need to prove they can beat the elite NFL teams such as the Colts, Pats, Da Bears, Eagles and some others. They got beat badly last year by the Skins, the Packers, the Cardinals even whooped them. So they need work and it's hard to say that they are playoff caliber when we have not seen the performance of the new players. Bottom line is Alex Smith needs to keep getting better, the D needs to improves, the O needs to sustain lokng time consuming drives and they need to open up the pasing game more.

That offense looks great and the defense is getting better. The main thing is that their coach finds a way to make them all gel and really play like a team out there. These guys are real young and inexperienced but a good coach/staff could get them a wildcard spot. They'd probably lose but they could get there. The Seahawks are getting older, the Cardinals make too many changes and not the right ones and the Rams are no longer the Greatest Show on Turf.

I see them contending for a Wild Card, but if something happens in Seattle, the 49ers could take the West.

I see very little chance of them getting past the Wild Card Round, regardless of whether or not they host a playoff game.

I think they might sneak in as a wild card.
They got thumped by a few teams last year, but they also beat the 2006 division champs two times..... and convincingly, too. After a number of down years, they have been trying to make the moves to improve the team.
They could be serious contenders in a few years, if they keep going in this direction...... IMHO :)

Not right now. They are re-building right now and it will take them about a year or two to get to the point of knowing how everyone plays and can even have a chance of making the playoffs. I say they need at least this season to really put it together.

I do. especially if they draft a good WR, and some cb help. But they have a good ,strong , young nuclious. they will be a playoff team. and might win there 1st playoff game in forever. They have a real good and getting better QB w/ smith, same w/ Gore at RB, a young tough def., and some average WR's. but a good talented TE to be there safety net. watch out.
