I'm running XP and need to use a 300 GB IDE external hard drive that was previously used in a Win 98SE desktop. Obviously the notebook I want to run it on through a USB port doesn't recognize it. How do I format the drive etc. to get it to work? There was no installation disk with the external enclosure.

format it using windows xp. or if you cant do that I would suggest taking out the hard from casing set it in the pc as slave then format it from there or you can do it from the bios but booting up as a secondary hard drive..
