Is their some breakthrough in his rehabilitation? Or is it just a bunch of ignorant people picking him up not knowing his situation?

FYI, the buzz index shows who the most popular added/dropped players. And they've had Liriano as the number one moved guy for the past few days.

I'm going to go with the "ignorant people" theory. He is out until at least September (by the most optimistic Twins reports) and most likely the whole year from all I've heard and I follow pretty closely.....

I think that it isn't ignorance per se as much as people feeling there is little to lose. Many people are waiving the bad picks from the draft and picking up Liriano on the off chance that he is able to come back and dominate. They figure that as soon as the season starts, they can put him on the DL and pick up someone else, so even if he doesn't come back, it doesn't hurt them much at all. Most of these people will drop him again as soon as someone on their roster goes on the DL and they need a replacement.

It does make SOME sense, since all that you lose is a roster spot until the season starts, then you get it back, but with the slim chance of his return, it just isn't worth the bother.

Liriano is recovering from Tommy John surgery and is out for the season and when the Twins break camp next week will remain in Florida to continue rehab.

This type of surgery normally takes a 9-12 month window to completely heal and best case scenario would be that he may be ready to try a pitch a few games in September to see how his recovery is doing but I wouldn't really look forward to seeing him until next year.

The reason you have seen him on the 'buzz' so much is people are taking him in their drafts and then finding out he is done for the tear and then dropping him.

Hope this answered your question.

Liriano is out for the season and maybe longer. Some people probably just don't know it.
