I had the same problem with a large storage shed. They were chewing up bicycle and lawnmower seats during the winter. I tried everything including a motion detector that gave off an ultra-sonic whistle - didn't work because the battery would go dead. The only thing that worked was boarding up EVERY opening they could get in. I think that's your only bet. They are desperate to get in out of the cold, and will take the line of least Resistance. well if i wanted to rid my garage of squirrells i would do the obvious of course! I would leave big mounds of delicious nuts covered in gooey honey laying around. And then I would make sure to leave a door open or some space wide enough to not allow them entry.

This should take care of those pesky garage squirrells!
