I used to care a lot about my grades and study habits in 10th grade and i even used to be on the debate team. Now i don't do sh*it. I am so lazy and I frankly don't care that I am failing all my courses. I don't even want to do a lot of the things i normally enjoy anymore. Is this depression? Now that i am in 11th grade I know that it is important and I will probably end up going to a community college. But how come i don't care?? and will i be like this for the rest of my life? I keep telling myself over and over that I will change, and yet i never do. Help??

I have the exact same problem! I got to 11th grade and everything is going downhill. It sounds like you do care a little, since you were willing to try and find help (which is what my school counselor told me). I would recommend trying something new and different. For me, a lot of it was getting tired of the routine, I stopped paying attention, and therefore stopped learning in my classes. It kind of scared me, but I wasn't really looking for help, until I almost decided to drop out. I talked to my counselor, and I was able to take some pressure off by dropping a couple classes that I didn't need in order to graduate. Try to talk to your school counselor, and figure out something different, maybe running start, or less intense classes are possible. A counselor will also be able to analyze any symptoms of depression, and help you if you need it. Good luck!

The change starts one step at a time in the right direction. It sounds like depression, but you can feel better and turn things around for yourself. Talk to your family Dr about how you're feeling. Talking to a counselor would help a lot too. Believe it or not, talking to a neutral party really helps and gives you a new perspective on things. An antidepressant may help you, that will be up to your Dr. Just remember that you will be out of high school and that world in another couple of years and be on your own. Start planning now what you want to do with your life after school. Life is an adventure and there's so much to learn and experience. You have a lot to look forward to. Get some help so you can feel better and get back on track. Good Luck.

You suffered a major loss within the past year and are grieving that loss. It must have happened during the summer, since you were upbeat in 10th grade. Whatever happened, talk to someone you trust so you can let go of it and move on. The symptoms of grief and of depression are similar. Grief knows what was lost, while depression does not.
