I wasn't taught those things growing up. I've learned them as an adult. Not having learned them early, though, when I say something like that, it's not just force of habit. I do mean it.

I always say "Thank You" and "You are Welcome." They seem to go hand in hand (cannont have one without the other). Although not many people are in the habbit around here, I guess that they just think their lives are too busy to slow down for 2 seconds to express their thanks. My younger sister is one of them (and sadly she is only 15). I love to send people thank you cards - handwritten, not e-mailed. It is sweet and unexpected and brightens the day.

In real time I do always use my manners unless pushed not to by another rude, disrespecting person. I must say that I do not thank everyone here for their answers etc, I have totally noticed you do, but I will try harder in future, please forgive me and thank you for making me a better person today!!

Most definitely. And I include a generous peppering of 'sirs' and "ma'ams'. Guess its the southern upbringing. I definitely teach my kids to do the same.

I do say thank you but I rarely say "you are welcome". I say bless you anytime someone sneezes unless it's too late due to my delayed reaction. And I was actually never taught those things.

for the most part
unless its someone i dont like
and i never say "you're welcome"
it gives people the idea i'll always be doing them favors
i say "no problem" or "It's cool" when people say thanks
