The answer is gravity. Gravity always occurs whenever there is mass. How much depends on the amount of mass, and how close together it is. Tides are an effect of gravity pulling on two objects. They occur on our planet in cycles because of the rotation of the moon around the earth and the earth around the sun. The seasons as well are a cycle because of the rotation of the earth around the sun. The earth is caught it a constant tug of war between the earth and the sun.
