my emachines pc t2893 has already 512mb in one slot and their is another empty slot. My computers maximum memory is 2GB. I want to upgrade the memory but an undecided if i should buy 512mb because it is considerably cheaper or the 1GB. The reason I am considering the 1GB is because say if want to upgrade again in the future i wont be waisting any money by having to replace my newly bought 512mb with a 1GB. Do you understand what I am saying? help!!

Hi,

According to the specs of your machine, you're running on a 2.66GHz Celeron, which has "moderate" performance at best. Since you've decided to add more RAM, put in another 512MB, otherwise, I wouldn't recommend you buy 1GB, since you won't get any more out of your computer by adding more RAM (you're CPU will be the bottleneck every time). If you decide to switch later on (which I don't recommend, mainly because of the CPU), you can always trade back the 512MB modules for a single 1GB one.

Regards,
TK

I recently upgraded to 1GB from 512MB and saw a 47% increase in processing when I multi-tasked with 12 separate prgms running. There is no guarantee that U will xpernce the same but an increase in RAM never hurts.

Thats what I did I bought both and really 1 gig is sufficient enough for evarything unless your running duo processors.Id buy 512 not only because its cheaper you will always have the option of selling it. I went to Staples and they sell pony brand which the one I bought was universal so it was more versital. It was PC3200 it does DDR400/333/266.plus it came with a rebate I got it for around $35.00 after rebate, if you got time to wait. Every other week its on sale in the sale ad on Sunday.By the way I love emachines If you ever upgrade use a biostar motherboard.Around $45.00 and support the Emachine disk.Or atleast mine did.You probably need to check first.I ordered mine from geeks.com.

Just buy the 1 gig and use it with the 512.....

I had only 256mb in my laptop, when I bought an extra 512, I just threw it in the extra slot and it works fine with both.....

The type of ram your looking for is DDR PC2700....

Update: Considering the speed of the ram, you arent going to have any "bottleneck" when it comes to performance....I dont know what would make someone throw out such a horrible assumption, but its is not a fact, just their uneducated opinion...

i think the 512 module will work better and faster ... but really it wont make much difference between adding 512 or 1 gig ... if u want to put in a 1 gig module go ahead ..

Get the 1GB and keep your 512MB = 1.5GB
trust me it works.
Another 512 would be your cheaper option....something to think about.
good luck
