They are breeding on a desk (in the tank of course) next to my computer...my male has blown a bubble nest and chasing the female around..(poor female...her fins are all ripped...just fins tho..)I put them together yesterday and they've been nipping chasing and hiding for the whole day. The male just keeps building its nest. Anyways, my main quesion is:
1. Will me being here using the computer and watching over them effect their mood of spawning? (like interupt them or they might not want to spawn cause I'm typing so loud here or me watching...)?
2. my male is still nipping at the female and she just keeps running off and hiding...how long will it take before they actually spawn and how do I know that they are actually going to? The male is alot gentle now than yesterday and the female seems to be alittle more comfortable.

I know my female is ready to spawn...she has huge stomach and a little white tube showing at the belly. She is light coloured (white and VERY light purple) so cannot see her strips...but she changed into dark blue for some reason with white stripes...also she had the head down tail up thing before I released her.

Dun worry about your present there. but putting your tank on your working table's not a good idea-if you think your typing will sent vibration to the tank.
If you really have no other place, do find a isolator, like thick, soft rubber below the tank to absorb the 'vibrations'.

Should your female be badly hurt and always running away from the male with not proper hiding place-it may soon be killed by the male/by the injures.
And this also indicate that the two may not be that compatible after all.

It's always fasinating to be able to watch the mating process of betta. Dun think anyone will be tired of watching it.

So, enjoy! Cheers!

Yes. I've spawned several broods and got to watch the egglaying in most cases.

My second attemp came when I was in graduate school - I kept 12 bettas in my lab office. I was taking a fish science class that semester, and my instructor let the class come over to watch. Fish porn indeed!

As to when - when they're ready. Some things you can't really predict. You'll know when he starts bending his body around hers. And yes, she'll sink in between times he squeezes and swim up again once she recovers and he's picking up eggs and placing them in the nest.

Hi there. They don't mind spectators. As soon as she lays the eggs, get her out of there.http://www.aqua-fish.net/show.php?cur_lang=2&what=article&id=72 This article may help. Here's another good one. Mating usually takes 1-4 hours and if she isn't cooperating, she isn't ready. Things will improve. Have a good experience

WOW fish porn...just kidding

I dont think you just being in the area will effect them... just dont do anything to the tank to spook them.
