I agree I had a friend he was Dominican and I just thought he was light-skinned black he had green eyes and Tyra Banks' complexion, and his mom did too but her eyes were brown and she was just a tad darker. But they just consider themselves hispanic/latino, even though that's not exactly a race. A lot of Spanish-speaking countries, such as Columbia, Aregentina, are very racist towards black people for some reason, so maybe it's out of denial they say this? However, for the record, a lot of Latin-american countries are also racist towards native-americans as well.

They are referring to the indigenous people of DR when they say Indians not all of Dominicans descend from Africans but a lot of them do. Their mindset is the same as any other culture that have been forced to assimilate by the Europeans in the past and were made ashamed of any non-European association(descending from Africans) which gets carried on to this day sometimes.

Actually, I'm Brazilian...Brazilians ARE Latino, BUT we're NOT Hispanic in view that we do NOT talk Spanish! Hispanic is a seize-time period that encompasses any person from a Spanish-talking nation of beginning, however MOST--just about ALL Hispanics don't name themselves Spanish--that title is ONLY for folks from Spain! Spanish are Hispanic, BUT NOT Latino (as in Latin-American). Latinos way any person from Latin America (I do not know why Haitians aren't Latino, however Dominicans are?), in which the folks of many distinct races talk a Latin-derived language. Hispanic refers to ONLY folks from Spanish-talking nations, NOT Brazil. Spanish People more commonly are viewed Hispanic, however NOT Latino. And MOST importantly, Hispanic or Latino is NOT NOT NOT a race, there are lots of many many distinct races of folks in Latin America! Example, many folks in Brazil or Argentina are from European backgrounds.
