DNA testing is just a shade over 50 years old. Back in the day they would just look at the child, both the parents, make an assessment.

Well, one, they didn't even know what DNA was back then. They did know about genes, just not exactly that there were nuclei that had DNA. It all came with the development of microscopes and then whatever machine they use to look at DNA--I'm no expert, but I have a enough of an idea. This is a recent discovery. Before DNA, this wasn't long ago, they did Blood tests. While the Blood tests couldn't tell you if the person was indeed related like they can now, between blood type A B and O, there would be a way to know with the mixture of mom and dads blood, what blood type you could be. If you had a particular blood type, that made it impossible for a man to be the father, he was removed from the probability. I don't know if they were this evolved in the 1800s, but I'm sure in the early 1900s this was discovered.

In the late 1800's to early 1900's there was no paternity testing. DNA was undiscovered and not a usable bit of science to people of that time.

HELLO.....you awake........in the 1800's they used lasers and only during moon walks did they do DNA testing. That was before Lincoln dropped the H-bomb on Atlanta to end the civil war. it was hard for the horse to carry the bomb that far.
