Have you thought about ramps? I'm sure walmart/pepboys/autozone sells ramps. And never get under a car just relying on a hydraulic jack. They often fail when a poor sap is under his car. Often his wife or kids find him hours later and too late to help. Get the ramps or at least the jack stands.

One problem Sam you are asking for something a little out side of the norm....

i.e. as you have found cheap floor jacks are out there in 2 ton and 2 1/2 ton...

but they so not go quite low enough for spots on either really low cars or

those which have been lowered...

Hence here is my suggestion because I doubt you are going to find what you want New for that Cheap...

make yourself a set of drive onto graduated slow incline step ups or ramped blocks about 2 1/2 to 3 ft in length ....

these will be used in conjunction with the common jacks found in the $25-30 range that you have been finding...

also most of these you mentioned actually carry a jack stand & jack combo for under the $50 limit you set... (strongly recommend you get it)

anyway you set the ramps in against the tires at the rnd of the vehicle or side of vehicle you are going to work on... & drive it onto this elevation block set up under cars own power...

once it has been elevated 2-4" by climbing onto you helper blocks... the jack now can be placed at an appropriate spot on the frame to gain further height...

place those jack stands to make the car safe and stable to work on by lower the car onto the stands ...

this way the car will not fall on you...

make room in the trunk at all times to carry your helper blocks and jack and jack stand set..

below is a modified photo of the Truck, I used to have to do this proceedure with because both bumpers were only 6" off the ground when I got it....

i couldn't get the jack between the ground and the frame on it without my special booster blocks...

Harbor freight and JC Whitney are going to sell you a cheap cast floor jack made in China. If I'm getting under a car and I'm trusting a jack it ain't gonna be one made in China. Purchase a good jack and it will last a long time. If your gonna but one made in China do yourself a favor and purchase good jack stands!
