A person who lacks compassion, they will exhibit the following
qualities:
1) Not interested in others
2) Doesn't care if you fail
3) Is more and more selfish
4) Lacks desire to help or offer help
5) No longer gives compliments

Compassion is basically empathy. Empathy is the ability to identify and understand another's situation, feelings, and motives.
If this person has not been doing the above, then he is not showing compassion, but it does not mean he is not a compassionate person. Different people may respond differently to the same situation.

Tell them your sick of it and you need some compassion and that's a part of you and that's how you are. Just remember if that person don't give it to you after you try-ed to wake that person up about your needs, then you need to decide can you be with this person for long term, and if you do decide that don't b i c t h about it no more.

You can't if they hide it well. If you are really unsure by your own interaction with them, the best sources are their family or close friends. People that they have been around for awhile. Little signs can show, but again some people are good at keeping a false face on.

If they hurt your feelings and cant see why they did. If they hurt u and dont say their sorry. If u r hurting and they dont acknowledge it or they tell u ur being silly.
Just some of the many things they lack.

They don't want to "be there" for you. They say their peace, but don't give a rat's booty to hear yours. They walk away, roll their eyes, sigh, or insult you when you're down or upset. The list could go on forever.

If they are self centered and never express care or concern for another. Talk with them, watch their actions and words and you should start getting clues.

Spend some time with them! -How does one find out anything about anyone without doing so?
You'll know...how he/she treats people, children, pets, the elderly, the disadvantaged.
Believe me, you'll know if you give yourself some time with this person.
