dont think jack nicholson wasnt going to rat him out matt damon just thought he was. and he was givin info to the fbi do he could cover his own treacks and not go to jail

Jack Nicholson's character was giving info about some of his own guys that were already gonna be busted, sooner or later. He did this to cover himself and avoid going to jail. Don't forget, first and foremost, he took care of himself. Not necessarily was he going to turn in Matt Damon, at least not at that time, but who's to say if he'd have lived if he would have down the line.

if he had thought that he was going to get caught anyways he would have turned him in to cover his own tracks, but I don't think the jack nicholson would have turned damon in at all since he thought of him as a son.

I agree with Daffy, although I took it that Costello never ratted out Sullivan. At least that's what he told him and I'm pretty sure Sullivan would have gotten busted sooner if the FBI knew about him

he gave info to the FBI so that they would not put him in jail. he was an "informant" and therefore they didn't get him in trouble.
