Jonathan Papelbon or Mariano Rivera

I think Papelbon, being a red sox fan, and the fact he's younger and rivera is aging

what are your thoughts

PS. just because im a sox fan doesnt mean i hate Mo, i think he's still very good and can throw, but I feel as if Papelbon is better

Papelbon is injury prone he will blow his shoulder out this year.
How can you say he is better then Rivera, Mo has been in the leauge for over 10 yrs which he closed for more then 8. Pap has been a closer for 1 yr yes he a good yr but had to shut down at the end of the season cause of his shoulder. Just 2 years ago all the baseball analysist were saying Brad Lidge would be better then Mo and look at him now he cant close a big game.

Papelbon will have more opportunities. The Sox pitching staff is overall better than the Yankees.

The Yankees will score more runs, probably depriving Rivera some saves due to blowouts.

I concur with the asker, as I am a Red Sox fan, but have huge respect for Mo. I just think Papelbon will get more opportunities and he has shown a knack for shutting the door.

The big question is: Is Papelbon a "one-yr wonder"? Was that a fluke yr?. I dont think so. I think he will be one of the best closer in baseball if he wants to be. I dont know why Bosox tried him at SP. Was it Papelbon or the Red sox?. Rivera is very good at what he does. A Hall Of Famer. But i believe he had a slight injury last season and he may get a couple of more injuries. I now believe the Red Sox will win the division which means more saves for Papelbon. I think Papelbon will have a better season if he wants to be a closer. If he is upset about NOT being in the rotation, he maybelosing his concentration once in awhile.

I think it will be a toss up and think they will both have outstanding seasons with Rivera edging Papelbon in saves but Papelbon getting more strike outs.

I read an article where Papelbon said he tries to model himself after Rivera in the way he pitches and approaches the game and found that rather interesting.

Looking forward to a great season...Go Brewers (yes, we do exist!)

First, I need to say that I HATE the yankees, however, I believe Rivera will have the better season.

Papelbon is going to be a starter this year and its not easy to be a great starter in Boston. He'll have the chance to pick up a lot of wins backed by that great offense, but he'll probably have an ERA somewhere around 4 or higher.

Rivera is consistant and plays for a really good team. He'll probably put up about the same numbers he always does and will once again be one of the top closers in the AL. Its too bad Papelbon isn't still closing or I think I would say he'd put up better numbers.

Ok,I'll be fair Papelbon is an awesome closer,In him,Boston has found their Rivera! He had great # last yr,And if he stays healthy he'll do amazing thing for boston,Now Rivera has already earned his spot in the hall of fame,This off season he developed a new pitch, and i'v been watching his spring training games,,And i gotta say he's at his best this yr,with this new pitch!

I will go with Paps for the same reason as you. Mariano is a legend though. But come on, he cant stay that good forever. If Papelbon can stay healthy he will be amazing
