what if my instructors get upset b/c I will not speak? Should I talk to them about this before I partake in the silence?

The GSA at my school is organizing everything for the day of silence. We are passing out these cards that explain why we are not talking, just ignore the harassment those people don't matter. We ended up making tee shirts that had a Day of Silence theme using puffy paint, or wear something purple or rainbow. Bring a notebook and write in it, if you get the urge to say something then write it down or pretend that you are mute or lost your voice. I would talk to my teachers explaining that you are not going to talk that day, and explain why.

Just tell people the day before, and maybe wear a "hello, my name is... I'm not talking today, sorry" tag.
Just ignore harassment
Wear a purple shirt.
If this is a school sanctioned event, your teachers shouldn't have a problem with it. They will probably get an email about it.

I support the day of silence.
I think that more gays should take part in the day of silence. imagine, not having to hear those irritating lisps for 24 hours. what a joy!
