First you have to prove that there is something that needs to be cured. What if they are just like that way?

As a transgendered person, I know that a lot of my personality would definitely be VERY different if I didn't have this issue. And I can't imagine what kind of a person I would be. But I know that the things I accomplish in my life and the people I meet in my lifetime aren't based on whether I'm transgendered or not, I can meet people and do things whether I'm this way or not. So I'd say that if, somehow, homosexuality could be "erased" from society, then there'd be a lot of people out there who would be totally different. Maybe for better, maybe for worse. (Personally for me I'd say I'd be worse.)
I don't know for sure what would happen on the grand scheme of things, but I can tell you that society would probably be quite radically different (as would eliminating a large number of people with any other sort of trait).

I'm agin it. What next? A couple is having a girl, and they wanted a boy, they gonna change that too? I'm left handed in a right handed society. I have talents and abilities unique to left handers. Will they get rid of left handedness too? Or brown eyes? Red hair and freckles? I am not sure that homosexuality is a "disease", any more than left handedness, or freckles. And the research that they are doing on genetic markers that they think have to do with homosexuality can only predict a "potential", not a certainty. Who knows what other long term effects would surface as a result of the "treatment."
The question is what would society sacrifice if it developed a "cure". Nazi Germany tried to develop a cure for things like that, and also things like dark hair, brown eyes, etc...
We would all sacrifice our right to be whoever we were meant to be, according to someone else's idea of what we should be.

society would suffer because suddenly there would be so many fewer hairdressers ( see the jesse Dirkhising story ) and interior decorators, the world would suddenly be so much less tacky. drag shows would suddenly close and the world needs more drags shows.ugly betty would suddenly not have that irritating little kiss butt Mark as an enemy, and her nephew would no longer be buying polyester off the rack. plastic surgeons would go broke with no more transexuals to mutilate . and we can't have plastic surgeons go broke, can we. We'd have no more pretentious fashion designers telling women that they are ugly if they don't look like skinny supermodels. Oh, society would suffer sooo much.

We'd lose talented people in all disciplines, from interior decorating to artificial intelligence (I'm thinking of Alan Turing, of course).
Sacrificing people is _so_ pre-civilization, don't you think?
