If you really want that job, I don't think there is anything you can do. The doctor could lose his job if he doesn't disclose information that could result in a serious conflict of interest with your employer. You could otherwise simply refuse to let them have the entire report and jeopardize your job.

I am a hospital doctor in the UK.
A doctor CANNOT lie.
However they cannot inform all people of the truth, only if a patient gives their permission to divulge that information.
Cetainly a doctor cannot skirt around the truth, we either tell it how it is, or dont tell it at all.
This is not just from a moral point of view, its a part of the Hippocratic oath and the General Medical Council guidelines to which we subscribe to be able to practice.
If a Doctor is caught lieing in any form, e.g. falsifying records, giving completely incorrect details in professional discusions, giving patients completely incorrect advice or a diagnosis, could and WOULD lead to the doctor being struck off.
I am sorry to hear that something has happened to you medically, and that it may affect your employment. Or it may be that you have a long standing illness and that this is private to yourself.
My advice would be that you first got to your GP and tell him your situatin, i can reassure you that he will not immediately divulge all your information to your employer. (Unless however i must add, your illness will cause risk to others, for instance if you were diagnsed with epilepsy and you were a taxi driver, which could cause you to have an accident, or you had some form of infectious disease and you were involved in healthcare, then the risk of others must be protected. Some people react to this by saying that they will just keep it to themselves, but if you did not divulge your illness to an employer and it did go on to harm someone else then this could lead in a criminal charge and possible imprisonment of the patient.)
Again my advice still stands:
Go to your GP, tell him your situation ask him if your employer really needs to know this information, he will not lie on the form he will just not include it as it would be irrelevnt for your employer to know.
I hope everything works out well for you.
In summary : Doctors dont lie, if they do they are no longer a doctor.

You have the right to check the report before it goes out to your employers. If you don't want something to show in the report you have the right to ask the Doctor to take that out.
As well, your employer would only be allowed to ask for a medical report if you have been off sick for a long time without a particular reason. Otherwise they can't do that.

They have to have your permission first. Why do they want it? You shouldn't have anything to hide, honesty is the best policy no matter how embarassing or private. I'm off with depression and stress currently which has been building for years, I told them the truth and had a good cry at the same time!! No use fibbing they'll find out. Your GP shouldn't lie it's more than his job is worth, though if he's nice you could ask him to 'miss out' a few bits!

Your employer only has the right to know information pertaining to your job. There is a law (HIPAA) that states they do not have the right to ask about your medical conditions, except as needed by your position.
Can the Doctor simply state that there are no medical restrictions keeping you from work?
Of course there are doctors that will lie for you, however, I would never advocate that. It will usually only make things worse down the road.

A doctor will not lie for you, but he also will not release any information that is not related to the request that hasn't been authorized by you. In other words, you have to give the company permission to get your medical record (exceptions may exist for worker's comp cases), but once you authorize that, the doctor will release only information that is related to your work requirements.

You have to ask yourself this question: How far with a GP stick his/her neck out for you? And, will they be willing to risk their position to protect yours?
Unless it's something that might be drug related that you shouldn't be doing, I don't see how your employer can pry into your private life or fire you from your job because of your health. That's discrimination.

It would be highly and unethical for a doc to lie and he'd probably be struck off if found out so I very much doubt if one would

Go to the doctor and tell him you don't feel well. Even if he finds nothing wrong with you he will write you a letter saying he saw you. They can't prove you feel well.
