This is a company that i want to work for. I have had two long interviews with them and it seems like a great place to work. this test is to determine if I am better suited to a sales position or a sales manager position. The test should take an hour, involves strange questions and a handwriting sample. the test will be mailed in and evaluated by a proffessional.

Where I work, we have one called the "Myers-Briggs" test. But that thing doesn't take an hour. There are several different kinds of personality tests. Mostly, I think they are designed to check whether or not you are an introvert or an extrovert. Good luck. Its no fun taking those.

The test you are talking about is probably a Meyers-Briggs style personality test. They will be seeing if your personality will fit in with the corporate culture. You can do more research about these tests on the web. There is no "right or wrong" answer for each question per se. It's just who you are. Although who you are may or may not be a fit with the rest of the employees. To "lie" on the test, you have to figure out what kind of personality they tend to favor. But then again that might not serve a good purpose if you come in and you don't fit in.

The handwriting analysis stuff is a bit voo-dooish to me but generally I think they believe handwriting provides a similar window into your personality.

It seems you have no choice. But if you decide to take the test then be as candid and straightforward as you can.
Believe me there is nothing worse than working in a field you hate or dislike. So if your personality is not geared for sales then you'd rather know now and save yourself a lot of heartache.

the questions aren't difficult ... they typically try to look for tendencies to focus on big idea or process, and how personal or task based you are.

there is no point giving unnatural answers .. firstly becuase no intelligent company wants everyone to be same type -- you need a mix of directors / ideas men / detail men / team glue -- and it tends to show up anyway.

also if your personality does lean a particular way and you try to force yourself into a role that doesn't suit you , you wont be happy and you wont work well either.
