I agree, people are so righteous about this. They know the answer for everybody and every pet. And they jump to conclusions just so they can jump on somebody's case, as if the inquiring pet owner was a sinner. Anyway, I posted a question about my cat on a forum a few years ago, and mentioned that she was declawed. I didn't even declaw her! She was that way when I got her from the humane society at 4 years old. I got 10 responses from righteous pet owners AND a vet who told me what a terrible person I was. People are not so opinionated and CERTAIN about the RIGHT WAY to raise a child or even run the country, so I also wonder why it's this way with pet issues such as declawing, neutering, and tail docking.

Well, this is the way I think. I think that spaying and neutering is neccessary in an animal that is not intended as a breeding individual (by a responsible breeder). It is much healthier for the pet as is reduces chances of certain kinds of cancer (testicular, ovarian, uterine, mammary) and eliminates things such as pyometra which is Very dangerous and can be deadly, and it helps reduce the population of unwanted pets. And I feel very strongly about this because SOOO many young, healthy, happy animals are euthanized every day only because there are just not enough homes. I do not think dewclawing is bad either, because dew claws can get in the way, and can get ripped off. But I do wish they would put the animal under anesthesia to do it, like have it done when they are fixed. I think tail docking is cruel and uneccessary because the vet does it when the puppy is wide awake. I don't care if the puppy is 'too young to remember it' I still think it is cruel. And I feel that ear cropping is uneccessary also. Owners only have ears cropped and tails docked for looks, and it takes so long for these puppies ears to heal. I don't think it is fair to the puppy. And I feel the same way about declawing a cat. When a cat is declawed you are amputating the first digit on all of their toes. And just so you can keep your new sofa safe from getting scratched? There are many other alternatives. None of my animals have their tail docked, ears cropped, declawed. But they are all fixed for all of the reasons I named above. That is my opinion, but it's just an opinion.
I want to add that I do not think people who have these things done are bad pet owners. And many times these animals come this way when they get their pet. And most of these owners take great care of their pet otherwise. This is just MY opinion on the matter, and what I choose to do with MY pets.

Spay / Neuter: Benefits
Many people choose not to have their pet spayed or neutered because they feel that it is somehow the wrong thing to do. There are a variety of standard reasons they give as to why they believe this, ranging from concerns over the pet's health to simply wanting both themselves and their pets to experience having a litter.
Unfortunately, what many of these people fail to realize is that there is little truth to any of the myths surrounding spaying and neutering, and that the benefits of the procedure far outweigh any potential downside - both for the individual pet and the overall pet population. In fact, spaying or neutering is one of the best things you can do for your pet, your home, and your community.
but i guess it is your chioce, but you see poeple do go and get 'fixed' every day, but poeple dont get thier as'ses cut off or thier ears cut off!
Having a pet 'fixed' can dramatically improve your pet's overall health in many ways. First and foremost, the procedure helps your pet by lowering its risk of contracting a number of potentially dangerous diseases. For example, the risk of cancers - ovarian or uterine in females and testicular in males - is dramatically reduced once the animal has been fixed. This alone increases the life expectancy of pets.
The health benefits of spaying and neutering extend beyond the medical realm as well, since the overall effects of the procedure positively influence the pet's behavior. Specifically, an animal that has been fixed is much less likely to roam the neighborhood in search of a mate, and is thus less likely to be involved in fights with other animals, exposed to the dangers of traffic, and come in contact with diseases such as rabies.
to me, it is the right thing to do, but to the next person it may not be, i stick to the facts, if other people don't thats thier own problems. I just want whats best for my pet, ang fixing them is!i hope this helps good luck!!

I don't really know what you're asking, but ear cropping and tail docking are just to make a pet look better. Declawing, spaying, or neutering a pet helps the owner.

I completely agree with you. It's a person's own choice to decide what is surgically done to an animal. I am pro spaying and neutering, too. I mean, for the people who are against it, maybe THEY should take care of all the thousands of homeless animals and make sure they have good lives. Until that is done, spaying and neutering is a must!

Ouch! no I wouldn't want my b---s cut off, but you have to realize we are talking about animals, we are responsible for them as owners and if you need to spay or neuter that is your business, people need to keep the distinction between animals and humans, it's sad they get angry about cutting a dogs ears and let this mass destruction of babies go on year after year. Seems like double standards and a bit hypercritical I think.
