Ah yes. I am a Turkish Cypriot, originally from Limassol and I used to enjoy our daily trips to Paphos until 1974. Then we had the war and had to move to the north of the island. After 30 years, they opened up the checkpoints on the border, so I had the chance to see beautiful Paphos again. But alas, that sweet little town is gone :((( Instead, there is a large town made up of concrete buildings (ugly mostly). Some think Paphos is still beautiful, but for one like me who remembers the old days, it's not so green and quiet anymore.
Oh well, this is happening everywhere, even in North Cyprus. Maybe I am getting old. But I am sure you will like the evening stroll by the promenade in Paphos as you walk past souvenir shops, cafés, and taverns towards the ancient Ottoman Castle at the end of the small yacht harbour. Just beware, price of beer goes up as you get closer to the castle. Do try to visit the nearby town of Yeroskipos and taste the delicious Cyprus Delight (not Turkish delight this time). Also try their almond paste. It's just lovely. Take a trip up north-west to see the Aphrodite baths; to the east outside the town, to sea the birthplace of Aphrodite (Petra to Roumio). And of course taste the local wine from villages on the slopes of the mountains.

Went last year and stayed at the Elini Village. Paphos itself is great, plenty to do, but where we were (a few miles down the coast from paphos) there is little to do but sun bathe and swim.

Nightlife wise paphos is bustling, plenty to see and do, the water is lovely and the beaches fantastic.

Only one word of warning really - beware the timeshare con-men on the main drag along the harbour who ask if your english then try to get you to do a scratchcard for a chance to "win" a prize. All cards are winners, and many people have been caught up in the hype these guys sell and end up with a worthless timeshare costing them packets of hard earned money. Steer clear of these guys and you'll have a great time.

paphos is great place,it's probably the best city in cyprus. It has everything, beautiful beaches, hot weather, nightlife(but ayia napa's is much better),the huge ecological park of akamas, ''petra tou romiou'' where goddess aphrodite was porn, many forests and plenty of activities you can do.

btw in paphos are the best hotels not only from cyprus but from whole europe.

It's a fantastic place, loved it. The scuba diving's good.

Went five years ago, and went to Cairo with Olympic Airways, flight time about an hour, I think.
