I am going to Moscow in a few weeks to visit my girlfriend's family. We have been together for quite some time and we are thinking about getting married. I have never met nor seen her family and her family has never seen me. They have no idea that I'm Asian. I am worried her family will not approve of me because I am Asian. Do I have anything to worry about? I know some Russian can be very discreminating and I have not had the nerve to ask my girlfriend if her family might potentially be discreminating towards me.

hello, i understand the reason because you are nervous, it is normal...
but the most important thing is ... how do 2 of you are in love?? if you have the same feelings anything else is not so important. i know that you would give to them a positive opinion of your personality, but that is not such a big deal. be your self, don't show that you are worried and everything its would be just fine.
remember, the 2 of you have to create a family and if you understand each other... yuppie !

Yess, you should to worry as well. I am russian, live in russia. They will not see if you are chinese or 'russian' asian from south, they all are black for us. They always will be looking down. Especially her father I think, if he is not tolerant. Of course they will not say anything up front to you. They will be very very hospitable to you during dinning. But after that they will be to press daughter to dump you.
I am just being honest so you not be surprised. I did not have such experience, just know.
And in streets, be carefull if you will see gang of skinheads, I don't know what can be.
I have the only one thing to cheer you up. At least you are not georgian or arab because they are worse. I personally think that chinesses are very intelligent, they don't drink as russian, but who knows what the family anyways. May be you are lucky.

If not, go through the front door with a big smile, give them all a big hug, and just be yourself. If they don't like you like that, then you've done your best. Hey....you can do it !

Well if you being asian is all they've got against you !!! then u've got absolutely nothing to be causing mental distress about, unless u arrive with an offending flirtatious behavior toward the soon to be wife's mother.....then u just might get yourself in trouble

Regardless of how they treat you, just be yourself and for the sake of your girlfriend, let any animosity on their part go over your head for the day. It's not them that you have to live with if you do get married. Good Luck.

one, if u r in love, it doesnt matter
two, be careful in moscow... i've heard horror stories from real russians (and polish,ukranians,etc.) when vacationing in moscow
