My wife and I are going to Vegas for five days during the last part of April. What is there to do other than gamble and go to the shows?

These sites have everything, you should be able to get some ideas. LV has a great many things that you can do for free.
http://www.lasvegasadvisor.com/activities.cfm
http://www.vegas.com/attractions

Shopping >I hate shopping with a passion but even I can spend a few hours at this place.
The Forum Shops - Caesars Palace

These are very nice but nowhere near as nice as the Forum Shops.
Desert Passage - Aladdin
Grand Canal Shoppes - Venetian
Fashion Show Mall

Best of the free spectacles
Fountains of Bellagio
Fremont Street Experience
Masquerade Show in the Sky - Rio

This site is great for up to date info on LV
http://www.lasvegasadvisor.com "VEGAS INFO" > One of the nice things is the list of all the free hotel shuttels.

My list of must see hotels
#1-Caesars Palace
#2-Venetian
#3-Luxor
#4-Bellagio
#5-Wynn

If you are into antiques & artifacts, visit Main Street Station in downtown LV. They have an incredible collection from all over the world. Including a section of the Berlin Wall.
MSS also has my favorite Buffet in LV, and the Pullman Grille is #1 on my list of "moderate" priced steakhouses>the atmosphere alone makes it worth a visit. The restaurant was actually built around the fireplace & sideboard from Preswick Castle.

If you're a sports fan, check out the super book at the Las Vegas Hilton, this is a great place to watch your favorite team, play some great low limit video poker and drink free. They have 27 Nickel 9/6 JOB(99.54%) machines and more than that many at the Quarter level.

For an awesome view
The top of the Stratosphere Tower, or the top of the Eiffel Tower. The view from the Strat at sunset is not one you will soon forget.

We go to LV 2-3 times a year for 2 weeks or more at a time and have for over 20 years. If you have a Q please feel free to send me an anonymous e-mail through YA.

1st off, bring your suntan lotion. The end of april it starts getting hot.

There are many shows here, not just the broadway type but also there are comedy shows, and adult shows where they do the PG version in the evening and the topless version at night. I believe the Riveria casino would be the spot for those shows.

Red rock canyon is absolutely amazing, and Hoover Dam is historic by its lonesome. But you can't forget about the lost mining town at Lake Mead near a little town named Overton (when they filled lake mead it became submerged, but due to the quickly growing cities that it supplies water too, the water level dropped and it became visible again).

Mount charleston is also beautiful, you wouldnt think you are in the desert when you are up there. The trails should all be open by the time you are out here.

The shopping here is world class, the fashion show mall is across the street from the Wynn casino, and the forum shops are at caesers. The dining here is out of this world and all of the best casinos have many restaurants throughout(its not all buffets like most people think). The nightlife is amazing. I think only Miami tops it. Every casino has nightclubs, the best is probably the playboy club at the palms casino. But body english at the hard rock is #2.

You should also check out mandalay bay, mgm grand, hard rock, and the aladdin's websites to see which music artists are performing. Every singer and band comes to vegas, its absolutely amazing as if you're a music lover, then this is the place for you. If you like boxing or mixed martial arts then you should check out the thomas & mack, mandalay bay, and mgm grand to see what is going on while you are here.

Hopefully I have been some help, and I hope you and your wife have a great trip.

I was just in Vegas this week--for business. I was stuck in a conference room during the days, but at night I managed to make it out to some of the nicer properties. Those alone are worth seeing, even if you don't visit to gamble or take in a show. Some of my favorites: The Wynn, Bellagio, and the Venetian.

Very close to Vegas (within 30 miles) are two great sights to see: the Hoover Dam and Red Rock Canyon. The dam is one of the most amazing human-made creations I've ever seen. Red Rock Canyon is beautiful, especially just before the sun goes down.

I'm sure others will write in with more suggestions...
