No, several computers can connect to a wireless internet connection myself.

First, you need to by a wireless router and you also need to make sure the computers connecting are compatible with wireless connections.

A cheaper way is to by a router like I said, connect it to the computer with the internet. There will be 4 other ports for you to connect network cables. Buy as many network computers as you have computers. Connect each to one computer and back to the router.

DESKTOP WIRELESS CONNECTIONS ARE JUST THE SAME AS LAPTOP CONNECTIONS! IT DOESN'T MATTER IF IT IS A LAPTOP OR DESKTOP!

Yes, you can use a wireless router to connect multiple computers to the Internet and all of you can surf on different web pages.

If you buy a Linksys system then you can connect up to 4 computers wirelessly or with wires. However, to run the network you need a computer to act as a server. This computer has to have a connection and it controls the wireless router. If the central computer is turned off then the entire network will go down.

My brother-in-law is a Computer Engineer and he has 4 computers in his house, all connected wirelessly to his central computer. He and my sister can operate on any computers surfing anywhere they want to go, at the same time, with no restrictions.

If you have a cable modem for your broadband Internet connection (like I do) then you still need a router after the cable modem to spread the signal around. If you connect separate lines to the cable then each line will need its own cable modem. If you are using fiber optic or other connection then you will probably require the same system.

If you are using DSL then you need to talk with your ISP (Internet Service Provider) to find out what kind of connection you can make. Normally phone lines can handle 3-4 separate phones. Few people pay for that many phone lines, but since wire is cheap the phone companies wire buildings that way in case if a customer wants to put in an additional phone line (with an additional bill for that extra phone line). If you are using a dial-up connection then each person will need their own phone line to hook up to the Internet.

[Linksys also sells combination modem and routers, I have been using a Linksys, as recommended by my brother-in-law for many years without any problems. My brother-in-law uses a Linksys system as well.]

wireless is made primarily for labtops. if you have that installed in your labtop 5 million people can use it. get one internet connection. if someone has a desktop then that works, but everyone should have their own individual labtop if you are getting wireless, that way you can work in your seperate rooms and not be bothered. you can use wireless for desktops too, but it's a hassle.
