I need some suggestions of really good, normal books to read that have won a nobel prize.
Any suggestions?

Preferably ones that aren't too gross or boring. Does anyone know if Running With Scissors has won a nobel prize?? I heard that was a good book...

I know the author wins the prize. But they usually win it for a specific book. I was just shortening the question. Thanks though.

Do you mean Pulitzer Prize? They don't usually give out a Nobel Prize for books.

Here is a link to books that have won the Pulitzer:

These books have won other awards. I don't think they have won the Nobel Prize. I don't know if Running with Scissors has won a Nobel prize, but it's a good book and has been made into a movie..........

Nobel Prizes are definiteley not won for a specific book; but instead for an authors collective literary work and its contribution in chnaging, evolving or just significantly adding to the literary landscapes defined by Alfred Nobel as "the most outstanding works of an idealistic tendency". The man booker prize and the pullitzer are awarded to an authors individual work. The man booker is considered to be the most prestigous prize oustide the USA probably surpassing even the pulitzer (though american writers cannot enter). The booker of bookers awarded to the novel considered to be the finest booker prize winner went to Midnight's Children by Salmen Rushdie (a great novel, try giving it a read). Nobel prize winners in litearture have been previously awarded the booker prize such as J.M Coetzee (twice) for The life and times of Michael K and Disgrace. Other authors who have won nobels for their collective works include Hemmingway, Rudyard Kilping and Thomas Mann. Try looking up some of their works and sift through what you like. Here's the list of Nobel recipients for lit. (ps.I think the wiki list is on the ball): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nobel_Prize_in_Literature

As far as I know, Naguib Mahfouz's "The Cairo Trilogy" considered as one of the best ever written in Arabic and translated into English by a four-member team of scholars was the distinctively literary masterpiece as agreed among the Nobel Literature committee and thus he was awarded the Prize in 1988. However, there are three books under the title, that is, Palace Walk, Palace of Desire and Sugar Street. You might start with the first one since the whole book is about 1300 pages in a hardcover published by Alfred A. Knopf in New York in the Everyman's Library. There are also paperback editions by another publisher.

The Life of Pi by Yann Martel didn't win the Nobel, but it won another literary award, and it is an excellent read, especially if you enjoy animals or survival literature. Martel thoroughly researched for his novel, so it is very believable and interesting. Why do you have to have Nobel winners? There are lots of good books out there, worthy of more "reader conscious" awards. Depending on the kind of literature you prefer to read, Nobel picks may not be to your liking. Go to http://nobelprize.org/nobel_prizes/literature/ to find a list of the Nobel winners. Then go to Amazon.com, which gives you reader reviews of any book they offer. I like to read reviews to get an idea about a book before I go hunting it down to really see if I want to read it. You might want to do that, too. Personally, I haven't been impressed or motivated to read the Nobel winners

One doesnt win a Nobel for a single work. One win's a Nobel for literature - a compilation of their work. You might want to read some winning Pulitzer prize books. Beloved by Toni Morrison is excellent. Pax - C.

"She's Come Undone". I don't remember what or if any awards went to the author, although I'm pretty sure. It's on Oprah's Books To Read list. I read it a long time ago, it's a good book. It's about a teen girl who's struggling with her weight issues. I highly recommend it.
