I want to write a short horror story, but I don't know what the setting should be. My ideas so far are like a huge abandoned medical complex, complete with electrical issues and mutated patients/monsters., and a large church excpet I don't know how you could have an entire story take place just in a church. Ideas please.

I wouldn't worry so much about a setting until you have characters and an idea of what kind of plot you want to write! Once you have these things, you can find a setting that feels natural.

Also, there's no reason a short story has to take place entirely in one location-- perhaps you could focus on how your characters are getting to wherever they are going instead! However I don't think it's unrealistic for a short story to take place entirely in a church or other small location, you just have to stretch your imagination and figure out why!

Why does the story have to take place completely in a church? Why not place the church in a small village, near wide open fields or a dark gloomy forest? And the people who live there are a little strange from in-breeding for many years.

You are the author - start with an outline and character studies and analysis. That should tell you where the story takes place. I cannot understand how people can come here and say "I wanna write a story but I dont know what to write"
Write what you know. Write what's in your heart. You ocan change scenes in a story simply by leaving a blank line then *** then another blank line. That's the best advice I can give you. Pax - C.

The woods, that's where people are killed. Maybe with a trapdoor underneath an abandoned schoolhouse.
