I have a few questions; which year did it come out?, is there anything i should look for?, does anyone have any comments or complaints about the car?

My friend bought a 2002 Protege5, a 5speed model 3 months ago. They only made them 2002 and 2003 then they
were replaced with the Mazda 3. So far good no problem or surprises. It is geared for performance, very peppy, has an increase of horse power over the standard Protege. Also comes with 16" tires, very low profile performance rated, not the best in snowy winter conditions, my friend bought winter 15" steel rims with snow tires for it. It revs pretty high on fifth gear on highway. I don't know what an automatic would be like, test it out and get it on the highway and see how you feel in it.

This is one of mazda's greatest cars. the protege' has been out since 1995, the protege 5 since 2002. while the protege5 only ran a two year span many of them were sold.
my mazda protege (&5) customers very rarely ever sell their cars & regularly maintence them, but hardly ever have to repair them. warranty on them is 5yr 60k miles. the top models have an in dash 6 disc changer with subwoofer in the rear spare tire area & sunroof with chrome rims 16"
look for regular maintence items (aka, tires, brakes, belts, etc...)

I own a 2001 Mazda Protege, they are great cars. my car has 120k miles and still runs new. dont worry about proteges and if you can get one, get without thinking much. I am planning to drive mine for atleast 200k before getting rid of it. My car never gave me any problems, all i did was the old change and believe me, i never even changed any hoses or pipes (well, i did change my air filter twice). Good luck with you protege. Hope this helps.
