oh, I should be an expert on this Q as I have had so much mouth issues in the past month =/
If you are in your 4th month, MOST dentists will see you, but he will be sure to use extra caution when giving x-rays. How my dentist put it is that "every dentist has the choice to see pregnant patients, but most of them use the rule of thumb to not see their patients in the first and the third trimester, but the second is safe...." I had to have a root-canal done two weeks ago (I am 21 weeks now) and everything was fine. They used a digital x-ray that has less radiation and also double shielded me. Hope that helps

It is recommended that you go to the dentist while pregnant. Just make sure he/she knows that you are expecting, to avoid x-rays and such. When you are pregnant there is alot going on inside your mouth as well, so its best to get checked out, to prevent gum disease which can occur during pregnancy and has been known to lead to pre-term labor. So to answer your question.... YES! Make a dentist appointment now, don't wait until the baby is born.
(also, people will tell you lots of things while you are pregnant, some because they think they know everything, others to scare you, and some because maybe back then things were like that for them, if you are unsure about something ask your OB/GYN. )

Definitely get the check-up. Actually, according to every OB I have ever had (3 of them), a perinatologist, and a neonatologist, you can even have x-rays done (just not in the first trimester) and if needed, a local anesthetic for dental work. Most dentists will try to wait until after the baby is born, although if you have a cavity, they will usually want to work on it. Especially if you end up with an infection, as this can cross over to the baby.

You should be going to the dentist while you are pregnant. If you dont and get gingivitis or any other peiodontal disease it can cause pre term labor. They suggest waiting until you are into your second trimester so that you dont gag when they are cleaning your teath. You have to avoid the x-rays though, they arent good for the baby, and you probably should wait on getting any dental work done, but a cleaning is very important while you are pregnant. Are these ppl your mom and her friends? Things have changed since we were born, and a lot of the things they do now they never did with my mom.

On the contrary, you can lose calcium while pregnant which can lead to tooth decay. In fact, there used to be an old adage which said you gave a tooth for each child. Make the appointment but inform the dentist and the hygeniest that you are pregnant. They will want to take extra precautions with the x-ray. They will also have advice on taking care of your teeth when you're pregnant. It's also a great time to ask them about caring for baby's teeth once they come in.

I think you can get the checkup; I got mine at 4 months, but I made sure they knew that I was pregnant when I made the appointment; they won't take xrays or do any major dental work when you're pregnant. A tooth cleaning is one thing; a root canal something else entirely. 4 months along is the borderline, though; usually, once you're past 18 weeks, the dentist will tell you to brush and floss regularly and they'll see you once you've recovered from childbirth.

I asked greater or less a similar question in the previous as I would desire to have a crown and a marvelous type of holes crammed back up. My solutions have been that the dentist only makes use of a different style of element interior the injection. while they take xrays they positioned a textile over your abdomen section. So i certainly think of you will desire to tell your dentist which you're pregnant.

I'm 9 weeks, and kept my routine check up.
I had to tell them no x-rays. But, everything went as scheduled.
They will WAIT to do any dental work until the baby is 1 month old. Get your body back in order for a while.

I'd ask your dentist and your ob/gyn for their advice. A basic checkup should have no negative effect on your pregnancy. In fact it has been studied that healthy teeth lead to a healty person overall.
