Dont get me wrong cause that message sounds lie begging and I am not. Just want to know the most reliable cheapest system I can get installed, thats hoping my Insurance will cover this cost.

Thank you so much every1 for your advice. Apparently my fle needs replacing too. It was blocked and wires have melted in the boiler and the corgi man informed me never to attempt to turn it on ever again, and advised me what boiler to get. He was very helpful and told me which boiler is best but in my situation advised which boiler to go for. Apparently its a useless system anyway a radiant combi-boiler and yes I have been in contact with warm front.

Its difficult to comment without asking for a ton of info. Who condemmed your boiler? some of the big companys can be a little trigger happy with there condemnations, so it may well be worth seeking a 2nd opinion from an indepedant, go through the CORGI website for a list in your area.

I very much doubt your insurance co will pay up if its given up the ghost due to old age. I have never come across it.

If you are a single mum on benefits there is some good news. search for "warmfront" (yahoo it) its a government supported agency which can offer large grants towards the cost of replacement heating.
you will need to check if your elligible, and you still may need to contribute to the final cost.

Good luck

your insurance company will normally only replace like for like. same brand everything.
in the mean time if you are cold, either wrap up with the duvets off the bed around you when in your lounge etc, go to a friend or relatives as often as possible until your heating is fixed, buy in a couple of portable electric heathers from your local DIY store.
there are lots of things to do here. Remember though to buy a fire guard to put around the heater so that your daughter does not get burned on the heater as electric heaters can often get hotter than hot water radiators. last thing you need on top of dealingf with the central heating is to have the worse problem of your daughter burned by a fire.

remember too that you need to keep the heater at least 12 inches from the floor (so sit it on a table or something) also you need to keep it at least two feet from any flamable materials) again you don't want to risk a fire (burning down your home) now do you!
if you rent your home then it is your landlords responsibility to replace and maintain the central heating system where installed.

i'm not a heating engineer so i can not advise on the best system to buy.
just get several companies to give you a quote for differentsytsem types boilers, thermostats, radiators and controllers

good luck!

We had our boiler condemned just before New Year last winter. It was freezing. While we sorted out what to do, we got a couple of electric radiators that we moved from room to room with the family. The kids had hot water bottles at night and learned about taking their underclothes to bed with them so they put them on warm in the morning, and having sequential use of the bathwater at night - fortunately the emersion tank was still operational.

The engineers who condemned the boiler told us that our entire central heating system needed replacing, including radiator-valves, etc. I think they expected us to take up their (rather overpriced) quote out of desperation because it was so cold. It was worth waiting and suffering and getting 3 other quotes to discover that it was only the boiler itself that needed replacing.

It was not a comfortable time, but if nothing else it was educational for my two children to discover what it used to be like when I was a child - without central heating!

Define condemned. Did you have a carbon monoxide leak or burner break, or something. If so you should call in a qualified person to fix it. In the mean time, portable electric heaters are all right and can heat a large area, but there are some safety concerns. If you have a small child or messy house, you should get one that turns off when tipped over. Also, do not assume that you can use just any extension cord with these, unless you want to burn down your house. Also do not go to sleep with these on especially if you don't have a working smoke alarm in the room that its in. Oh yeah, also keep it 3 feet away from anything flammable, especially curtains or bedding.

don't get Night Storage Heaters - they are a total waste of space.... u can't choose when u get the heat, so if u are at home during the day, u are still going to freeze ! (i learnt that from past experiences living in rented accommodation) have a look in your local phone directory - there will be loads of heating engineers & installers listed... call a few, and explain the situation, and ask for a quote. most will be happy to do this for u free of charge. compare at least 5 quotes, and see what your cheepest option would be. good luck !

I would enjoy helping but you need to provide much more information. What kind of furnace do you now have? Gas forced air? Oil forced air. Propane? Boiler? Help????
Who condemed the exisitng unit? HVAC company? Gas company? ??????? WHY was it condemed? Cracked heat exchanger? Leaky gas valve??? carbon monoxide detected???
There are several of us that have furnace experience on Yahoo Answers and I know one or more of us can help. Tell us more!

If you're living in southern states then just forget about spending money central heating buy a couple of room heaters from Samclub and use them where ever they are needed. If you live upnorth north states then buy the one which oil based. This is cheap and less expensive compared to electric ones.
