when we bought the house there was sump pit but no pump. the opposit corner of the basement gets wet when we have a thaw or rains heavy. we bought a pump and it didnt solve the problem. the pit that is there gets water in it but not alot and takes care of its self with out a pump. do we have a clog and thats why water on the opposite side doesn't get tothe pit or is the sump pit not in the lowest part of our basement

If you have good drainage from the pit, you don't need a pump.

Some builders will install a standard sump pit by default. If during the time it was being finished, and there was no water, they likely wouldn't bother with a pump.

Check out the pit, if it doesn't have holes, do as rvblatz has suggested, and drill your own.

Otherwise you may have to consider digging and installing a pit where it is really needed.

No, you have a problem. there shouldn't be water in your basement, the sump pit is only a safety feature but it's not supposed to be used, that's why most builders don't put the pump in. I know that sounds crazy but water is supposed to drain away from your house not under it. Call a professional to check this out before you have foundation problems.

The basement floor is not graded toward the sump. The fix could be as simple as sctratching a small trench with a garden trowel over to the sump. Either correct that problem or dig another sump.

this is what i did and it works , the crock (pit) is made of
ahard polyurethane , take pump out drill a bunch of holes 1/2
drill bit , you will see allot of water come out ,put your pump back in
it solved my wet basement!
