I'm a nanny, from south america living in USA since 2004. the only thing i see here in america is moms going crazy for theyr babies development, is baby class, baby sing class, books, educational toys, since they are new borns. There is no play time without the parent relax and just enjoy the play time, no, is always need to have some educational pourpouse in the game.
i ask? how could i, and many many others, survive, 28 years ago, without special bottles, without estimulation, whatching tv, playing outside. how could i get a degree in physical education if i didn't had baby einstain or baby class when i was 3 months old? how could i learn to love my mom and be a good person even if she spanked me sometimes and said NO to me many many times.
i want to be a mom, but i'll relax way more, because i will never accept my kid kicking me or telling me to shut up.
Can you, american moms, explain that to me: how could we survive?

This is not an attack to american moms, but if you research about american education you'll see that america gives the worst education for theyr kids. i would never interrupt my mom in a conversation i lerned to respect my parents, to eat what was in the table, not ask 8 diferent tipes of food in one meal.
Sorry if i offended someone, but i'm oberving for over 3 years, and now i know way sometimes a teen goes in a school and shut everybody.

omgosh thank you for writing this question!!!! some moms go overboard the want everything for the child the best and latest toys, best schools, be the best at sports more than what they have but do it too much. I have a friend who buys stuff her son doesn't even need or use yet but she still gets it and she tries to compete with me about having the best. I'm more concerned about how my son is doing emotionally and how i'm doing as a mother it's great to use education to learn but it's more fun to just be a mom and enjoy your children!

This is a very good question.
We Americans are a very spoiled nation. We have so much more than other countries, yet we are always pushing ourselves and our offspring to do better, achieve more. It is sad that we mothers go into a frenzy about trying to stimulate our children into learning & developing faster, especially since a few generations ago, women had none of the 'conventional' things that make our lives easier today. I, for one, am very greatful for all the new developments in today's technology. I don't feel it is necessary to use every single toy they have created for educational purposes, however, but it is nice to have a wide selection that we can choose from to help babies develope their brains. Some of the good 'ole fashion ways of raising babies work just as good, too, and it helps babies/children develop imagination and creativity.(like playing outside.) I'm no stranger to the tv, but I do try to limit the time my kids are in front of it. Don't get me wrong, I'm not the perfect parent(by far! If I was I'd own Yahoo!answers, because ppl would be lined up waiting to speak to me), but a little Baby Einstein or whatever else you use coupled with old fashioned values and of course, lots of love is not going to push our babies to think they have to become overachievers. I agree we need to relax a little, watch our 'cherubs' grow, and take time to enjoy the precious honor of being a mother! I respect you for taking time to ask this question and I don't feel you are 'bashing' us American mothers. Just trying to 'figure' us out! LOL

I agree when I was growing up in America, life was a lot easier. But children today have a very hard and challanging life ahead of them with drugs and crime, no victim went out looking to be injured, or dead there are computers that have been put in their lives when I was growing up I had no Idea what a computer was, now if our children did not know well lets put it this way you best know today in America if you are not bi-lingul it is hard to get a job. I worked for a company for 7yrs and applied for a better postion because I was not bi-lingul, I was denied the job. Our children today our born and issued a social security number I had to be sixteen to be able to get a job the American children have to be taught at an early age in order to servive in our sosiaty today growing up in america is very hard and challangeling for our children crime drugs no victim ask to be injured or dead you see I am sure if had the option to have weekends off together and spend them at the park or beach with their children but middle class citizsns can not afford to take a day off parents really struggle to do the best for their children and unless they are taught at a very young age life here is hard and without and education (that is another story) and a second language our children will grow up in poverty and that is not a pretty picture so as much teaching as a parent can give a child in America no matter what age will give that child one good step into the future times have really changed and parents really have no choice

I'm from the U.S. and I'm a new parent and I totally agree with you. Everything is too scheduled. I plan on enjoying tons of play time with no strings attached with my child and I'm sure he'll learn a lot along the way whether we are trying to or not.

Because now a days people but into others people lives and tell them how to raise their children. Parents are so afraid to do something wrong, so they are trying to make everything perfect so that no one can find fault.

There is nothing wrong with spanking your child. I can't tell you how many times I got spanked as a child and I turned out fine! Some people say it's "Politically Incorrect" to spank your children. There's a reason. They a bunch of wooses who never got spanked. They need it.

Is this a personal attack against American Women? That's pretty crappy. America is not the onl;y place where that happens. Why don't you ask that again with all the direct remarks against America.
