How did my "System Restore" fragment???

I have a 2-year old Dell Inspiron with Windows XP. The last time I defragged it, I noticed a large block of still-fragmented files. When I checked them, they were all related to "System Restore." So, I tried to run System Restore to check it out -- and it came back "Cannot restore..." I tried different restore points but nothing works. I have NO idea how this happened, or how to fix it. Any ideas???

You'd think the fragmenting would be related to running System Restore too many times.

you could try turningsystem restore off, run a defrag then turn back on, worth a try
