Progressives are what causes changes in society.

Conservatives want things to stay the same, follow tradition, conform to expecations. Liberals want things to be flexible and to adapt to circumstances. And progressives overlap with liberals by recognizing that the world and society changes, and we need to change with it or be left behind.
