Um, sorry, but until the "people" pull their collective heads out of their asses and pay more attention to politics than to Britney, I don't WANT my govt listening to "the people".

What makes you the keeper of information about the will of the people? If you think those silly loaded questions in polls are any indication you really must be naive. Here is how you can tell the will of the people regarding the war. The democrats will not cut the funding. Because they know that to do so would be the end of the democratic party. If for one minute they thought that the will of the people was to pull out they would cut the funding immediately.

By the way, do you think the terrorists would prefer another president just like President Bush or would they rather have any of the democratic candidates elected?

YOU ARE ON THE SAME SIDE AS THE ENEMY! HELLO?

Abe Lincoln comes to mind. The majority of the people in the north did not know whether is was important enough to fight over slavery. The folks in the South really didn't think they would prevail against the industrialized north militarily. they were hoping for a protracted war of attrition that would bring about a negotiated peace. Certainly they did not support the president. But there were many instances in our history when the people backed the President when he was clearly perpetrating unconstitutional actions. FDR comes to mind when he interred literally thousands of Native born American citizens of Japanese descent during WW2. Nothing similar happened to folks of German descent. So the knife cuts both ways. There was a time when people supported segregation by a wide margin. I'm sure there were a huge majority of voters did not support JFK's actions in doing the right things to break the back of rampant racism. Did these things make them bad presidents?? I think not. The will of the people counts on voting day. We place our trust in folks at the voing booth. Just because we disagree with some things they are doing mid-term does not mean that they will not be eventually proven correct in their thinking. It has happened before and will happen again. A lot of folks like to say they protested our presense in Vietnam and subsequently forced us out of southeast asia, but few if any will take any credit for the 3 million folks that were slaughtered after we left. Such is human nature.

Abraham Lincoln was almost defeated in his run for his second term by an anti-war Democratic Party whose platform stated that the war was basically unwinnable, and we ought to come to terms with the Confederate States of America.

Clinton was a draft-dodger that "loathed the military", and may have been a traitor.
He don't count.
