When is the first time u heard the word "goth"? What does it mean to you?(what you count as goth and how know)

A person (not telling who) is wearing black but says he is not a goth. He wears blackk shirts sometimes gray and his pants and jacket are MOSTLY balck. He does not have black lipstick thou. And yes he is a boy. He is asian(not that it matters) asian chinese. But his hair is black with brown eyes and his family isn't a goth.( i know were he lives and i been there)

I first heard goth when I wore my DARE shirt (which is black) with dark jeans to school (I was eleven at the time, and in sixth grade). My sister told me I looked like a "gothic freak" (her words, not mine), and my mom gave a huge lecture on other peoples opinions (she was worried about how my clothing would reflect on her), drugs, and stuff like that. To me, gothic is several different things. It is an era (like victorian era and stuff like that), it is a music style, and it is a fashion style. A lot of people say that different labels are a state of mind, but everyone thinks differently and interacts with people differently, based on their personality and there experiences.

Maybe he just doesn't like bright colors!
Does he hang out with obvious Goth people? Does he talk about death & despair a lot?

He doesn't sound Goth to me...maybe he feels black makes him look thin--that's why many women wear it!

i think the first time i became aware of goth was when my daughter 16 at the time became one. she dyed her blonde locks black ,wore mostly black clothing ,make up etc, we use to go shopping together to find her clothes , she has grown out of ti now ,but i never minded as we all go through different stages in our lives and this was one of hers.
