First off, the minor in business is a very good idea. No matter WHAT major you are (chemistry, history, sociology, english..) you will be working for a business. This gives you the edge to advance more easily than someone in your major alone.

Majoring in communications can give you a lot of different opportunities in business related fields. You might even be given opportunities that seem outside the scope of what you have studied and this can give you different potential careers.

I am not quite sure which way English can go however. If you were pursuing a teaching career, education would be the proper pairing. I have had an older cousin major in English and from what I've heard it's a bit of a harder field to get into as demand is low.

I would go the communications route. It can still lead to many other options.

It seems to me that you will be getting all the "applied" stuff you need in your minor. For your major get the breadth and academic rigor of an English major.
