What is an easy way to remeber of know when to divide or multiply when working with conversions?

Always write out the units, then ensure that your units cancel correctly so that you get the appropiate units at the end.

Example:
Convert 5 gallons to quarts.
Wrong: 5 gallons * 1 gallon / 4 quarts = 5/4 gallon^2 / quart
Right: 5 gallons * 4 quarts / 1 gallon = 20 quarts
